Expat wives and children of expats.
Moving is always difficult.
One moment it can be exhilarating and the next, depressing.
As difficult and upsetting leaving your home and country can be, it can be as just as difficult leaving that new country to re-establish yourself, yet again, in another.
Leaving Canada for the Caribbean was one of the hardest things I had ever done. I sold my home, which I loved, left two young adult kids behind, and removed my third child from a North American school to be enrolled in a school in the Caribbean, which was very different from anything she had ever been used to or experienced.
Business transfers and relocations affect the whole family!
Very glamorous in the eyes of others, but difficult on the family that is actually living the day-to-day lives and dealing with day-to-day problems.
However, it can be, and was, one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had.
Meeting great friends, experiencing different cultures, learning how to live in a very different environment – shopping, eating, socializing, - all very challenging but with many rewards.
But the experience could have been better!!
By sharing fears and anxieties, asking questions, finding sources of information, learning from others – all these things would have helped during the transition period.
Let us get together to share our knowledge and experience.
We can help each other to Follow our Dreams!!
